Pink News reports 29th. November that Democratic Representative Jackie Speir from California has introduced a resolution in the US Congress calling for a .nationwide ban on ‘gay conversion’ therapy for minors following one earlier this year in her home state She said that gay conversion therapy had become a multimillion dollar industry and that it was often being funded by the taxpayer.She denounced reparative therapy as ‘quackery’. In the UK earlier this year Lesley Pilkington ,the therapist unmasked by Patrick Strudwick ,claimed that many of her clients were referred to her by GPs working for the NHS

Tom is absolutely right to point out that the government said that it did ‘not condone ‘ conversion therapy not that it condemns it. In either sase it is going to do nothing to stop it, either through regulation of practitioners or by an outright ban. The argument should be over the best way of stopping this dangerous practice Anyone will still be able to set themselves up as a practitioner.Even Jeremy in this weeks Peep Show declared he would have a try. And there is nothing to prevent him ,Indeed I would have far more faith in him than some others who might set up in business And at least he would be more likely to make me laugh than do do me harm Conversion Therapy does not work and it hurts. It should be stopped As simple as that
