Even supposing—–which I do not-that there is a point at which equality becomes too financially expensive-which do not- research by theTUC and Amnesty has shown that figure is spurious. The government refused pension equality on the grounds that equalisation of treatment would mean an unforeseen cost to pension schemes. But -as Amnesty has pointed out -and indeed as the governments own changes in o ld age pensions have shown, no pension providers can accurately predict how long pensioners will live let alone how many will be gay and still less how many will enter into civil partnerships or same sex marriages.By their very nature pension schemes deal with uncertainties. However the government itself has said that one third of pension providers have already granted complete sexuality equality. They estimate that the price of enforcing all schemes to implement equality. There is NOTa price that can be placed on equality
